Today Symantec introduces the new Policy Based Encryption Essentials functionality to the Email Safeguard and Email and Web Safeguard plans of Email Security.cloud.
This new functionality will give customers the ability to push encrypted messages to recipients with no dependencies on encryption technologies supported by the third party. Policy Based Encryption Essentials will be available to all new and existing Email Safeguard and Email and Web Safeguard customers, or any customer provisioned with the Email Data Protection service.
Additionally, Symantec is simplifying our encryption options for Email Security.cloud by reducing to a single encryption provider. The Policy Based Encryption (E) add-on service will be enhanced and renamed to Symantec™ Policy Based Encryption Advanced.
The Policy Based Encryption Advanced add-on will continue to be fully brandable and will support existing Push and Pull encryption methods along with new encryption technologies which will help ensure that enterprises can communicate securely with each other, no matter which encryption platforms they have.
These new features will be available to existing PBE E customers and new customers who purchase the Policy Based Encryption Advanced add-on. Policy Based Encryption Advanced requires the Email Security.cloud Email Safeguard plan, Email and Web Safeguard plan, or Email Data Protection.

Symantec’s Email Submission Client enables end users to report suspected spam directly from their mailboxes to Symantec Security Response, which helps improve anti-spam research and results. The Email Submission Client will be updated to support Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, and the new version is scheduled for release on March 28, 2015. Exchange Server 2010 and 2007 will also still be supported.
The Email Submission Client is designed to be easy to use and does not require the installation of tools or updates on endpoints. Users simply move the unwanted message to a designated folder in their mailbox to send the message to Symantec. Administrators control which users and groups in the organization can submit messages using Active Directory.
A moderated mode that allows administrators to approve messages before submitting them to Symantec is also available. The Email Submission Client works with multiple email clients, including Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Web Access (OWA), and Exchange ActiveSync.
Symantec Email Security.cloud customers can download the client from the management portal by navigating to Tools > Downloads.
Symantec Messaging Gateway and Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange customers can download the client from FileConnect at https://fileconnect.symantec.com

A number of enhancements to Policy Based Encryption for Email Security.cloud are now available to improve the ease of use and extend the capabilities of Policy Based Encryption. These enhancements are specific to each encryption service, either PBE-E or PBE-Z.
Policy Based Encryption E
- Outlook Plugin Enhancements – Encrypting from within Outlook is streamlined, and senders now have the ability to set a one-time portal password that recipients can use to pick up their messages without creating an account.
- Attempt TLS – When enabled, PBE-E will attempt to use TLS as the first choice to securely deliver messages with no extra effort required by the sender or recipient. If TLS is not supported by the third party recipient’s mail server, push or pull encryption will be used.
- Pickup Portal Enhancements – The pickup portal user interface has been improved for faster navigation, message sorting, and advanced searching. Messages can now be exported to save locally in a variety of formats.
Policy Based Encryption Z
- Encryption Reporting Portal – This new portal allows administrators to view and search for messages that have been encrypted. Administrators can see how a message was encrypted, if it was successfully delivered, and when. Data can also be exported for reporting.
